September 15, 2003:
What a weekend! Friday was the
Lizzy Borden/Bulletboys/LA Guns show at the
House of Blues. Lizzy has some new exciting material coming out
hopefully the end of the year or early 2004, so definitely be on the
lookout for that. It's a little different from your typical Lizzy, but
it rocks nonetheless!
Sunday was the
Harley Davidson 100th Anniversary celebration out in San Dimas.
Spotted in attendance were Eric Singer (KISS), Gilby Clarke, EJ from
Silent Rage, and Carmine Appice, whose Vanilla Fudge was one of the
musical guests, along with Dave Mason, Eric Burdon & the Animals and
Mountain. Later that night I checked out
Strapping Young Lad's set - can I just say MINDBLOWING? How does
Gene Hoglan make that look so easy?
Coming up on Wild Side this
Saturday, September 20, ODIN in studio!
The band is doing a show Friday, September 26 at the world famous
Troubadour, so make sure you're there to join us, and tune in to the
Wild Side Saturday at 4PM Pacific time!
My favorite new band,
Supagroup (that bunch of cuties from New
Orleans) is heading out for yet another leg of riproarin' rawk, so be
sure to check them out if you get a chance! Read my review of their CD
here, and
visit http://www.supagroup.com
for exact dates and venues.
September 1, 2003:
Happy Labor Day! This year
is flying by. I've been working with the Dio
folks, so got to check out quite a few of the gigs with Iron Maiden and
Motorhead this time around. The tour wrapped up Saturday night, and
Motorhead gets inducted into the Rock Walk
today with a performance at the Whisky later tonight. If you're in the
area come down and check it out.
I just got this from the
Poison camp:
"At approximately 3:00 A.M. CST one of
Poison's transport trucks was disabled due to a fire beginning at the
rear axel. Attempts were made by both the driver and the crew to
extinguish the flames to no avail. Those attempts were halted after it
was determined that there was pyro on the truck and it was more
important to clear the immediate area and wait for local fire assistance
for the safety of the crew and general public.
The truck quickly became engulfed in
flames, as the entire entourage watched from a distance. The highway was
closed down while emergency teams battled the flames. Had it have not
been for the quick response of the Scott County Sheriff's department,
Iowa State Highway Patrol and the Durant Fire Department, the band would
have certainly lost everything in the truck.
The band lost their stage, sound system,
several instruments and multiple other items. The full effect will not
be known until the band and crew can go through the salvage truck and
fully inspect all remaining gear upon their arrival in Nashville
September 1st.
The band is will perform tonight at DTE
Energy Center in Detroit as scheduled. Despite the loss that they have
encountered they will offer a raw and high energy performance show as
their fans have come to expect.
The band will also finish their tour as
planned with no shows being missed due to this incident.
The band thanks their fans for their
understanding and continued support, especially under these
circumstances."
Good luck to Poison in
getting everything back up to speed.
August 18, 2003:
I just got back from San
Antonio, Texas, where I caught the Iron/Dio/Motorhead show AND
Supagroup's set the night before. Can I just say what a kickass
weekend? I am all about Supagroup these days and if you haven't checked
them out, may I recommend you do so? They're one of the best new bands
around, and their live show will kick you upside the head! Website is
http://www.supagroup.com. I'll
have them in studio this Wednesday at 9:00 pm Pacific Time, so tune in
to find out what they're all about!
August 1, 2003:
Wow! I cannot believe it is August
already! What a busy summer -- so many shows to go to. I just got back
last night from New York seeing the Iron Maiden/Dio/Motorhead show at
Madison Square Garden. What a kick-- Make sure you check this one out
when it hits your town! I also checked out the Rock Never Stops show
last Sunday (Whitesnake, Warrant, Kip Winger and Slaughter) and the
Queensryche/Dream Theater/Fates Warning show recently. Whole lotta
rock!

and their stories in LA, in conjunction with Clarity Production LLC, the
film's producers, who are also in Alice Unchained, the Alice in Chains
tribute. I'm hosting a show on Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Paladino's
in Reseda, and will also be interviewing tribute band members and any
fans who want to be a part of the film. Don't miss this show. It will
sell out, so come early and get interviewed for the mockumentary and be
a part of history.
We'll be giving away a rare VHS
bootleg of Alice in Chains LIVE during the night, so come on down. For

March 1, 2003:
It's now been a little over a week,
and the fog is starting to lift. Ty's passing was a real shock and it's
been a hell of a week. Rolling Stone Magazine interviewed me for a
piece which will be out in about 2-3 weeks, so I was able to tell them
how wonderful Ty was, and how much people really admired him. I was
also able to get some props in for Jack, because he is going to need all
the support he can get in the days to follow.
If there is anything positive to
come out of this tragedy, it is this: We need to be more aware of what
is happening around us and not just assume the other person will be.
Make sure you know what you will do if this situation were to hit the
place you're in, and if you see something that doesn't look right,
PLEASE speak up. You could save not only your own life, but perhaps
others, and it's always better to be safe than sorry.
There will be a memorial service for
Ty tomorrow in Hubbard, Ohio for family and friends, and then a
memorial/tribute show in Los Angeles, probably sometime in April. Keep
watching this site for more details, and you can also visit
http://www.tylongley.com for more
information.
I need to address an issue that
popped up last week with regard to the T-shirt on the KNAC.com site. If
you didn't catch this, one of our advertisers took it upon themselves to
post a highly inappropriate and tasteless ad on our site with regard to
the Great White tragedy. As soon as we found out about it, we
terminated the account and the ad was removed. To make a joke about
something this tragic is clearly beyond the limits of human
understanding, and we do not condone such tackiness. Great White has
always been a part of the KNAC.com family, and we would never
intentionally direct anything so offensive toward them.
February 23, 2003:
It was officially announced today
that our friend Ty Longley was among those who perished in the Rhode
Island tragedy last week. I had the pleasure of knowing Ty, and he was
a good soul who always kept others in mind. He will be greatly missed.

February 21, 2003:
I'm really heartsick at the horrific
tragedy that occurred last night during the Great White show in West
Warwick, Rhode Island. My sympathies go out to the families of the
people killed, and my prayers are with those missing and injured, that
they might return to their lives fully healed and accounted for.
